Bayon temple opening hours and what you need
Under the Angkor Pass rules the Bayon is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you are building a day around it, the usual choice is an Angkor Wat tour with the Bayon that handles the timing.
You visit the Bayon with an Angkor Pass. In 2026 a one-day pass costs $37, a three-day pass $62 and a seven-day pass $72. Children under 12 enter without a ticket, and a passport can serve as proof of age.

Crowds and timing
No hour is guaranteed to be quiet.
The Bayon is busier after the Angkor Wat sunrise and again later in the morning. The numbers of visitors vary by day, season and the tours on the road, so treat any time as a tendency and not a promise. See the faces page for what to look for.
The upper terrace may be closed (as of July 2026), so check on site. Look for barriers and ask your guide on the day.
What to wear and how to behave
The rules of the temple site.
Clothing
Cover your shoulders and knees. Shorts or skirts that end above the knee and bare shoulders are not allowed at sacred places, so pack a light shirt and long trousers or a long skirt.
Protect the stone
Do not touch the reliefs. Do not sit on fragile structures, lean on them, move stones or take anything away, and do not write on the walls. Respect barriers and do not step on loose stones.
Manners
No smoking and no littering, and keep your voice low. The code of conduct discourages pointed umbrellas, tripods, backpacks and high heels, though it does not ban them outright.
Drones
Drones are banned at the historic temple sites, with permits for exceptions. Do not assume you can fly one at the Bayon.
Paths and animals
Stay on the marked paths, since landmines and unexploded ordnance remain a risk away from the main routes. Do not feed or touch animals.
Mosquitoes
Dengue cases rose strongly in 2026, so use mosquito protection during the day.
Getting around inside the temple
Floors, stairs and mobility.
Expect uneven floors and steep stairs. The Bayon is not a flat site, so do not assume a continuous step-free route. Visitors with limited mobility should ask a guide what is possible. Wear shoes with a good grip and carry water.
If you travel on from the Bayon to other parts of Angkor Thom, such as the gates and the royal terraces, the guide to Angkor Thom covers them.
